This is basically what happened the first day of class. ...Well, we didn't necessarily sleep all class, but I had barely gotten any sleep the night before so I was falling in and out as Professor Otto went over the syllabus. I had already read the syllabus before I came to class, so I knew everything he was going over and it wasn't too much of a loss. However, the video he showed near the class was pretty interesting. It was some gruff looking guy with an incredibly thick accent walking around a garbage dump talking about how Americans (or people in general, can't really be sure since, again, I was half asleep at the time) are in this denial state where we don't really care about what's happening to our trash and waste when we throw it out because it is gone from our sight. Out of sight, out of mind, right? But, even if we don't see it anymore doesn't mean that it just disappears. The trash has to go somewhere, and that is normally to the dumps or the sewage where it can still do massive harm to our planet. I found this to be quite true about my family and myself. We sort of just throw our stuff out without even thinking about where it goes afterwards. Personally, I have extremely limited knowledge about anything outside of my neighborhood and school, especially about the environment. Honestly speaking, I don't even bother to watch the news let alone pay attention to how and where I throw out a little piece of plastic. I'm not saying that I don't care, I just have other things going on in my head that push out other "trivial" things such as that. Because of that, I found the video to hit right at home, which caught my attention long enough to be awake for the last bits of class. ...I really need to start going to bed earlier...
